Worcester sculptor and artist, Victor Heyfron, was made a Fellow of the University of Worcester on Wednesday 19 November 2014.

Vic is a former member of staff of the University, lecturing from 1972-1990 when the institution was the Worcester College of Higher Education.

Vic studied sculpture at St Martinís School of Art and in 1963 became a professional sculptor. In 1969 he gained a BEd (Hons) at the University of London and became Head of Art at Birmingham Inner Ring Road Secondary School. In 1972 he joined the staff at Worcester, teaching Art and Philosophy.

During his time at Worcester he studied for a Masters in Philosophy at the University of Birmingham (1977) and he taught part-time for the Open University until 2008. He is the author of a series of writings on Art and Education including The Concept of Art and Creativity and Education. In the 1980s he was a member of the ĎAgenda for Artsí project committee.

Throughout his academic career Vic continued to work as a sculptor. His commissions include a bust of Sir Edward Elgar for the Royal College of Music, busts of the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana for the Royal Borough of Kensington, a bust of the Queen Mother now owned by Her Majesty the Queen and a bust of George Orwell for The Orwell Society. Other commissions have resulted in busts of Hank Marvin, Sir Cliff Richard, Eric Morecombe and Sir Donald Bradman. Two pieces of his work can be seen at the University Ė a sculpture of Sir Edward Elgar in the foyer of the Edward Elgar Building at St Johnís Campus, and of Archbishop William Temple in the foyer at the Charles Hastings Building at City Campus. Sadly Victor passed away June 2017 but he left us with his beautiful pieces of art
